Using General Unit Converter

Convert everyday measurements, such as a recipe temperature, a running distance, a room's floor area or a speed limit abroad, between metric and imperial units.

How to use it

1. Choose a category: Length, Weight / Mass, Temperature, Volume, Area or Speed.
2. Select the From and To units.
3. Type the value; the result updates immediately. Click ⇄ Swap Units to reverse the direction.
4. Round the result to the precision you need before using it, then Copy.

Limits and common mistakes

• Results show up to 12 significant digits, so round them for recipes, signage or anything a person will read.
• Temperature conversions include the zero-point offset; for a temperature change (a 10 °C rise is an 18 °F rise), don't use this converter.
• Gallons, quarts, pints and fluid ounces are US measures (1 gal = 3.785411784 L); UK imperial pints and gallons are larger.
• Weight and mass are treated as the same thing, which is fine on Earth but not for engineering calculations.
