🆔 UUID / GUID Generator & Inspector
Generate batch RFC 9562 & RFC 4122 UUIDs (v7, v4, v6, v1) and decode embedded timestamps.
UUID Inspector & Timestamp Decoder (v1, v6, v7)
Paste any UUID to detect its version, variant, and extract the embedded creation timestamp.
Using UUID / GUID Generator
Create unique IDs for database rows, test fixtures or API requests, or find out which version an existing UUID is and when it was made.
How to use it
- Pick a UUID Version: v7 is time-ordered and suits database keys, v4 is fully random, and v6 and v1 exist for legacy systems.
- Set Quantity from 1 to 100.
- Tick Uppercase, No Hyphens or Braces {...} if the receiving system needs that format, then click Generate UUIDs and Copy All UUIDs.
- To identify an ID someone gave you, paste it into the UUID Inspector and click Inspect.
Worked example
- Input and settings
- Inspect 018f4d2e-7c3a-7b21-9a4e-2f6c8d1e5a90
- Expected result
- Version 7, variant RFC 4122 / RFC 9562, created 2024-05-06T09:14:03.194Z.
Limits and common mistakes
- Only v1, v6 and v7 carry a timestamp; a v4 UUID is pure randomness and reveals nothing about when it was made.
- v1 and v6 IDs include a node field that some systems fill with a machine address; prefer v7 or v4 for anything public.
- A UUID is an identifier, not a secret: never use one as a password, reset token or API key.
- Braces and missing hyphens are formatting choices; check that your database column or parser accepts them.
