About Word & Character Counter

Whether you are writing essays, articles, social media posts (X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram), or code documentation, staying within specific length limits is critical. This tool computes whitespace-based word counts, character units, and estimated sentence counts without uploading your text to third-party servers.

Using Word & Character Counter

Check a draft against a submission limit — an essay word count, a product description cap, or a social post — and estimate how long it takes to read or say aloud.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type your draft into the text box. Every count refreshes as you type, so you can trim a sentence and watch the total fall.
  2. Read the word total first, then compare Characters with the No Spaces figure: forms that limit characters usually count spaces too.
  3. Use the sentence and paragraph counts to spot a wall of text: one paragraph with many sentences is often worth splitting.
  4. Check the reading and speaking times if you are preparing a talk or voice-over, then use Copy Text to take the edited draft back, or Clear Text to start again.
