About converting WebP to PNG
An image downloaded from a website may arrive as WebP while your document editor or upload form expects PNG. Convert it when the receiving application lists PNG as an accepted format. Keep the original if you need its metadata or animation.
PNG stores the rendered pixels without lossy compression, but this browser conversion does not guarantee preservation of original metadata or color profiles. That also means the file usually gets bigger, sometimes several times over. WebP and PNG use different compression methods, so a larger PNG is not by itself a conversion failure.
Transparency survives. If your WebP carries an alpha channel, the PNG keeps it intact, which makes this the right conversion for logos, icons, and cut-out product images. There is no quality slider on this page because PNG has no quality dial โ there is nothing to trade off.
The image conversion runs in your browser without uploading your file. Keep the original: this creates a still image and does not promise to preserve animation, metadata, or color profiles.
Using WebP to PNG Converter
Open a WebP image saved from a website in software that doesn't read WebP, such as older Office versions, some print shops and many design tools, while keeping any transparent background.
How to use it
- Drop the .webp file onto the upload area, or click to choose it.
- There is no quality slider for PNG. Only Max width can be changed, to shrink an oversized image.
- Look at the preview against the page background to confirm transparent areas still show through rather than turning solid.
- Click Download to save the PNG next to your other files.
Worked example
- Input and settings
- sticker.webp, 512 ร 512, transparent background, Max width empty
- Expected result
- sticker.png, 512 ร 512, with the same transparent background.
Limits and common mistakes
- An animated WebP becomes a single still PNG of its first frame.
- Detail lost when the WebP was lossily compressed stays lost; PNG only stops further loss.
- Expect the PNG to be noticeably larger than the WebP, sometimes five times or more for photos.
- Browsers without WebP decoding, which today means only very old versions, cannot open the source file.
